Earlier, we were a bit skeptical about active shutter glasses in terms of their ergonomic factor, but after experiencing the 3D Vision 2, our opinion has changed a bit.

The 3rd Generation of 3D Vision offers better 3D image quality with less ghosting experience. With Light boost technology, the user can also experience brighter screen and ambient lighting. With a 20% larger lens and improved active shutter synchronization with the IR emitter, the stress on one's eyes is also remarkably less.

The Infrared Transmitter box is a small pyramid shaped box. The latest glasses which aren't the flimsy type like the earlier version are the ‘active shutter' type which decide how to display images based on a signal from the transmitter box.

Additionally, there are two USB cables, one which connects the transmitter to the computer and the other is used to charge the glasses when their internal battery runs out. In our experience, the battery lasted for 60 hours' viewing at a time.

Various programs and drivers must be installed from the Nvidia website to make the kit work, and the installation was a tricky process. The software installed just fine but when we went through the checks to enable 3D, it refused to accept that our test display an ASUS VG278 27in LED display was compatible.

On a more positive note, we noticed that the Light boost technology and the glasses show a marked improvement. In our game playing experience, we noticed extra lights emanating from the sides, top and bottom.

At present, there are over 500 games available in the market, which support these new technologies. Firing up any of these gave us a very impressive 3D image without any further tweaking required. There are also 3D videos and pictures available, many of which are listed on the 3D Vision Live website.

Our overall experience was impressive and way better than the previous versions. The viewing is large and more comfortable and the collection has just become bigger. Installing the product is not a cumbersome task as each step has been explained in detail.

All in all, NVIDIA 3D Vision 2 is way ahead of the earlier version.
