It used to be that to get your latest music
video fix you would watch MTV and its spin-offs. With MTV now littered with
execrable shows like Jersey Shore, it is the likes of YouTube and Vevo
that now house the latest music videos.
View
the latest pop videos, however awful they are, on your phone with Vevo
Vevo isn’t well known in the UK but it is
doing well in the US. Developed by Sony Music Entertainment. Universal Music
Group and EMI, the service has now made its way to Android and it is a decent
way to keep up with pop music.
The layout is simple - images of the big
music video premieres take up most of the space, with options such as Videos,
Artists and Playlists at the bottom of the app. Drill into these categories and
you can search through the myriad videos on show.
While we weren’t enamored by the exclusive
content (The Saturdays and Swedish House Mafia are strictly for the teens), the
layout is great and the quality of the videos is decent - there is a high
quality option for most of them. Each video comes with some info, the option to
share and occasionally to buy.

News
Republic
There’s been a glut of news reader apps
hitting Google Play, so to stand out you have to offer something a bit
different - or the same thing but better.
News Republic does its job extremely well.
There’s no hassle with the app once you load it up; all you get is a massive
number of feeds, all customized in a great-looking interface.
It has feeds from Sports, Business, Tech,
Celebrity and Entertainment.
The app does try to squeeze too much in.
There is so much information on the screen sometimes that it’s tricky to switch
from one story to another.
The customization of the app means it is a
winner, though, because you can create your own news channel filters that cater
to your tastes.
While Pulse may just top this app for sheer
ease of use, News Republic is a smarter than average news reader for your
Android smartphone.
99. Photo Movie Creator

Photo
Movie Creator
Sony has managed to carve itself a nice
little niche in the app market. Relying on its expertise in the imaging field,
it has released a smattering of applications that help you on your journey to
becoming an imaging expert.
Photo Movie Creator is one of the simplest
editing apps we have used. It pretty much does all the hard work for you. To
use it, all you have to do is select a selection of photographs and the
application does the rest.
And by the rest, we mean that it adds music
and transitions to the photographs, so they become a moving slideshow.
The app doesn’t do anything breath-taking.
This is very much keeping to the Ken Burns style of photo viewing but it is fun
to use and takes just minutes to make up a montage - and when you are using a
smartphone, then minutes is all you want to lose when editing images.
For those who want a little bit more
detail, there is an HD version of the app optimized for tablets.

Free Hide Pictures
If you find yourself with a number of
images on your phone that you wouldn’t want your gran seeing, Vaulty Free Hide
Pictures is definitely for you. This is because it offers privacy that normal
photo storage apps don’t. The way it works is that it will put any image you
want in a vault on your phone.
Load the app up and to use it you go to any
image, where you will find a button on the top that says ‘Hide’. Click this and
that image is put into the vault. The vault itself is password protected, so no
snooping eyes can get to your collection of Glee images, or whatever
floats your boat.

Posterous

Posterous
We like simplicity. If an app or a device
doesn’t work straightaway, there are a thousand other things that can replace
it in an instant. That’s why we breathed a sigh of relief when using Posterous
for Android.
For those who are unfamiliar with the
website, it is a place where you can upload pretty much anything you want -
though perhaps you should think about what may be acceptable to the general
public - and it will add it to whatever social-networking site you want and
will also put it on to your very own Posterous page.
Using the site through Android is really
simple. All you have to do is log in, then click the green ‘Post’ button and
add whatever you want. You can get to your video and image galleries from here
and you can choose the image size for sending.
You can also add YouTube links and it will
embed all of these into your Posterous site without you going near any nasty
HTML.
And one of the best things about the app is
that you can view all your previous posts in a really easy way.
