‘You actually feel like you’re getting your
money’s worth is materials alone.’
We’ve reviewed one of Cooler Master’s
budget offerings, but it’s only fair to have a look at what it does best:
high-end cases. The Cosmos 2 is fresh off the production line, and it’s the
successor to one of the company’s most popular cases, the Cosmos.
Design-wise, it’s practically untouchable.
Claims to be ‘race car inspired’ are a little unconvincing, but it’s packed
with features and flourishes that mean it looks better than almost any other
case around. Its angled panels make it look more like a stealth bomber or
Batmobile than a racing car. There are handles at the top for easy
transportation, and sturdy stands at the bottom to aid air flow. It’s all steel
and metal, meaning that you actually feel like you’re getting your money’s
worth is materials alone: it weighs a whopping 22kg.
There’s bags of space for cooling and
components – if you leave the included fans in, you can fit up to eight in total
(200mm front fan, 120mm top fan, 140mm rear fan, two optional 120mm side fans,
and two 120mm hard drive fans with a third optional), although if you swap the
bigger ones for two smaller, you can fit a massive ten. There are ten expansion
slots, and if the inclusion of only three 5.25” bays seems stingy, console
yourself with the knowledge that there’s a massive 13 3.5” bays, 11 of which
are convertible to 2.5”. And, of course, it has USB 3.0 and eSATA support.
With an interior that can be extensively
dismantled and customized depending on your needs, there’s no doubt that this
is an enthusiast-level case. It supports dual-radiator water cooling, has a
multi-channel fan controller, and filtered vents everywhere that makes sense.
The only complaint you could really make is that is doesn’t have a side window,
but when it looks this good, who wants to see inside?
