Gigabyte GA-F2A85X-UP4 Mainboard & AMD A10-5800K Processor Review (Part 10)

Does it imply that AMD should build their products based on the Trinity platform again? Not really. We evaluate that only top modules in this product series come along with the mainboard with the full size of ATX, for example like we looking at the platform which is for high desktop system, and recognize that it is not the best application field. However, many telephone device and mobile device start to be very popular nowadays and have many features of the normal desktop, and that’s where Trinity APUs platform can shine indeed. The operating performance is no longer the problem for devices, but the efficiency in saving power is always a priority factor when it appears in mobile system and media center.  Unlike the A10-5800K processors for desktops, whose nominal frequency is increased almost to the maximal speed and TDP is set at 100W, there is a small change in the Trinity platform here. For instance, there would be less power consumed processors with the TDP of 65 W or the mobile modifications of 35.25 or even 17 W TDP. Nowadays, the most popular solution in desktops is 1920x1080 on the 24” and 26” screen. Even the AMD A10-5800K, not mentioning about the small Socket FM2 modules, cannot deliver the acceptable performance for 3D games. As for media centers, they just use online games, even if it is so, that is where the integrated graphics on Trinity platform can become useful.

Of course, all of the things which we just assumed should be confirmed in a practical test. However, the issue which does not include A10-5800K only affects a part of products built on the Trinity platform (when talking about the operating performance and the power consumption of the processor core), or even becomes an advantage (when talking about strong graphics cores, features that might become useful in some applications). In other words, some issues make Trinity APUs hard to become a perfect processor in a traditional way, but instead, these processors work very well their role in alternative market segments.

We feel that we have no right to stop you not to order the Socket FM2 and prohibit you from overclocking them. However, if you decide to buy AMD A10-5800K, we strongly encourage you not to overclock it. The increase of the processor clock frequency will just bring a humble return but consume incredibly much energy. Overclocking the graphic core also create the same minor result and increase the power consumed, while the quality of the game is not much improved. As for the memory, this component must be overclocked at any price, because it helps increase the efficiency of saving power and improve the ability to carry out the gaming applications considerably. Maybe you are going to buy an AMD A10-5800K processor in order to play a round in your favorite game from time to time? If you face this situation, you are targeting a high performance and great power saving ability purpose, or you must choose the wrong platform. Yes, the system from Intel is more expensive, but money is not the right measurement for everything. We have provided example about the light bulbs: the one with energy saving is more expensive, but they become more and more popular simply because they are better indeed. If considering pricing aspect, it would be meaningful not to build any recuperation and treatment facilities, but nobody follows this way anymore, and there will be no problem if new standards are set voluntarily or under a strict punishment rules. The result would be the same: the manufacturing process does not affect the environment as badly as the using process. We are almost unable to smell the fruit from the trees, but the next generations will be able to do that, so it is time to think about these things today. Therefore, take a second to think: do I really need a processor, which is not very expensive, but also not very fast either, and consumes too much energy like AMD A10-5800K?

If you decide to buy AMD A10-5800K, we strongly encourage you not to overclock it.
