Fujitsu Scansnap S1300i
Scansnap S1300i is a small update
for the impressive S1300 document scanner of Fujitsu. The main differences are
the new software package and faster scan speed, increase form 8ppm to 12ppm.
S1300i looks sturdy. Its lid is close, and opening it will
start the scanner and create a power 10-page automatic document feeder (ADF) which is adjustable.
Unlike the big scanner it doesn’t have paper out-tray so the orderliness and
the maintenance of order of the long documents will be a challenge.
The full software package of Fujitsu includes pre-installed
management software and optical character recognition (OCR). It also has
plug-ins for Microsoft SharePoint and cloud Evernote,
DropBox and SugarSync.storage
services. However, without TWAIN or ISIS driver, you can’t take photos in the
photo editing software as you can do with most of other scanners.
The scanner has only one pressing button on the left of the
paper tray. When the work is done, ScanSnap Manager
will ask you what you want to do with the scanned picture, with the options
from emailing and printing to saving into disk.
Documents are scanned in both sides and follow the default,
with automatically-rotate pages in order to be suitable for the direction of
any text, and whatever blank side will be rejected. You can change the
establishments by opening the ScanSnap icon in
Notification Area of Windows, but the options are scattered everywhere and some
tabs can be easy to follow.
S1300i is quite fast, scanning one side of an A4-sized paper
in 6 seconds at 150dpi, at it takes only 1 minute 5 seconds to scan process 16
sides from 10 A4 pages. Image quality is plentiful to the office apps, and OCR
is very accurate. It even does well in scanning images at 600dpi, though 10
copies take us more than 6 minutes.
S1300i is pretty
fast
This is an excellent choice for the travelling employees or
anyone who needs to scan documents fast and lack room for bigger desktop
devices. However, while it’s easy to use, we prefer the software that Canon
provides with ImageFormula P-215. The latter also
comes with TWAIN driver so it’s still a choice for us at this level
