Asus VivoTab Smart - Hybrid Laptop With Atom Chip (Part 1)
With Smart VivoTab, Asus has created a real tablet running Windows 8 with a suitable price as the iPad and other high-end Android tablets. At $499, the device is equipped with the Intel Atom processor and 64GB of internal memory, but more lightweight than the Apple tablet.
Asus Taichi 21 Review – Are 2 Screens Better Than One? (Part 3)
About the sound, the Taichi has an improved version of the Bang & Olufsen ICEpower setup used on the company's Zenbook line. As you might expect from a small laptop, the volume comes from the speakers isn't the loudest - we rarely lower the sound below the 50 % mark. Still, about quality, Taichi 21 has its own position.
Asus Taichi 21 Review – Are 2 Screens Better Than One? (Part 2)
The keys on the Taichi more or less have the same shape as the ones on ASUS's other Ultrabooks, which means they're a bit wider than height. However, it seems that Asus has some retooling behind the scenes; typing on this keyboard doesn't feel the same. Apart from the fact that the layout is more cramped (after all, this is an 11-inch laptop, not 13-inch), the buttons here feel slightly empty than the ones on UX31A.
Asus Taichi 21 Review – Are 2 Screens Better Than One? (Part 1)
With the lid shut, it doesn't actually look that different from HP Envy 14 Spectre, or Acer Aspire S7, or any other laptop with a glass lid. The difference is that you can see the matte outline of the bezel - the kind of thick border you'll find on a typical tablet. There's also a touch-sensitive Start button that emit white light when the machine is on. It’s same for ASUS' logo, which locates in one corner.
Top 10 Laptops - Q1 2013
If you're an Apple fan, deciding which MacBook to buy just got a lot harder, The 2011 Air has long been our No.1, and the 2012 models now have new Intel Core i5 or i7 Ivy Bridge processors, improved Intel HD 4000 graphics and two USB3.0 ports. So the best just got better - simple. Except it's not that simple, because the new MacBook Pro with Retina Display (below) is now more portable and more powerful than any previous Pro.
Microsoft Surface Pro - Bulkier, Heavier And More Powerful Tablet (Part 3)
Overall performance of Intel Core i5 Surface Pro goes beyond our expectations. A cold boot is completed in 8 seconds or less, which is quite impressive, and apps launched quickly and reacted well. Performance here is definitely good to have some serious work done, impressions are backed by our tests. Surface Pro reaches a 4,673-average score in PCMark 7 and 3,811 in 3DMark06, which is able to compare to the similarly technical-specs Acer Iconia W700.
Microsoft Surface Pro - Bulkier, Heavier And More Powerful Tablet (Part 2)
We spent much time with Surface Pro, drawing many scenarios every day to see how it faced the tablets and laptops it will compete against. To test its ability to increase productivity, we prefer Type Cover than the Touch Cover that we focus on in the Surface RT review, making this feel more like a laptop.
Microsoft Surface Pro - Bulkier, Heavier And More Powerful Tablet (Part 1)
That's the core idea behind Microsoft's Surface tablet line but, as we saw with Surface for Windows RT a few months ago, its ARM-based nature leaded to some substantial shortcomings. Viz.: app selection.
Sony Vaio Duo 11 Review - A Nice Hybrid Laptop
Vaio Duo 11’s design has erased the border between laptop and tablet; even in the near future, there will be more hybrid laptops sharing common characteristics with tablets. Under the increasing pressure of tablet and developing technology, hybrids models are becoming sleeker, more lightweight and more efficient.
Toshiba Satellite U920T - Tosh Puts Its Satellite Into Orbit
The Toshiba Satellite U920t features an Intel Core i3 3217U processor which is relatively underpowered when compared to the competition. Needless to say that people looking for top performance will find the Toshiba Satellite falls short of their needs, and it doesn’t compare favorably when placed next to the likes of the Dell XPS 12 or Sony VAIO Duo 11.
Lenovo ThinkPad Twist - New Spin On Laptop Norms
The Lenovo ThinkPad Twist squeezes a lot out of its sturdy design. As the name suggests, unlike laptops that are restrained by a single clamshell action, the screen on the Twist can be easily rotated so that it ends up facing away from the keyboard. This transforms it into a versatile tablet whenever you need it, like showing off a presentation.
Asus Zenbook Prime UX31A Touch Review - New Touchscreen And Equally Stable Performance (Part 2)
The UX31A Touch’s specifications are the elements of a high-end laptop: Intel Core i7-3517U 1.9GHz processor with 4GB RAM, 256GB SSD manufactured by ADATA and Intel HD Graphics 4000. Its scores in tests such as PCMark7 outdid similar-specified devices like Acer Aspire S7, and it provides outstanding read and write speeds in ATTO drive test: up to 554MB/s and 523MB/s.
Asus Zenbook Prime UX31A Touch Review - New Touchscreen And Equally Stable Performance (Part 1)
While Windows 8 has been a great inspiration to many new shape factors, it also provides manufacturers with good reasons to come back and change their most reliable products in order to bring them to the age optimized for touchscreens. One good example is the Asus Ultrabook Zenbook Prime.
Dell XPS 13 - Look, Don't Touch
The Dell XPS 13 is a pleasure to look at, and at first glance it’s hard to see the differences between it and an Apple Macbook. The lid is adorned with aluminum giving it a solid and high quality finish with rounded edges and minimalist design. Inside, however, is a soft rubber coating, reminiscent of the interior of an expensive car.
The First Wave Of Touch-Centric Platform
Acer made waves in the tech industry with the introduction of its Windows 8-equipped lineup, spearheaded by its flagship Ultrabook, the Aspire S7. The iconia W700follows in its footsteps, except it comes in a more portable tablet form factor.
Sony VAIO Duo 11 – All Things To All People
The release of Microsoft’s touch-enabLED Windows 8 OS sparked new and innovative notebook designs from the lot of computer manufacturers around the world, including the convertible form factor, which combines a notebook and a tablet into one device.
The Dell XPS Duo 12 Hybrid Ultrabook - A Swiveling Good Start
Fans of the Dell XPS 13 Ultrabook’s solid look and feel will be pleased to find much of the same on the XPS 12, albeit with a distinctive twist or swivel, actually. Coming with a swivel point at the middle of its bezel, the XPS 12 has a screen that flips around to transform the device into a more touch-friendly tablet as soon as you shut the lid.
Lenovo IdeaCentre A720 - The Ultimate Home PC
The 27in panel that sits atop the A720 has a 10-point multi-touch surface so you can manipulate objects and type with both hands if you wish. It can be a little slow to react, but this is a problem with Windows 7 rather than the A720. Later this month, an upgrade to Windows 8 should iron out any lag-related issues.
Samsung Series 9 Ultrabook - An Expensive Ultrabook
Straight out of the box, this is one stunning ultrabook. It’s slim, 12.9mm to be precise, and doesn’t weigh much either, at 1.16 kilos. The fit and finish is superb as well, although the downside of those dimensions is that ports on the shell are fewer than you would expect. On the upside, you won’t have any portability issues.
New Touch Controls Show Up
Dell and Lenovo take different approaches to how their laptops convert into tablets. The Dell XPS 12 Convertible Touch has a display that swings around in a frame, then folds over the keyboard. Besides serving as a laptop, Lenovo’s Yoga IdeaPad twists into three positions-tablets, stand, and tent.
Sony Vaio SVT13116FGS Review - A Third Gen Core i7 Ultrabook With Plenty Of Style
Vaio SVT11113FGS (11.6in) and SVT13116FGS (13.3in) are two first Sony models that feature sleek design, elegance, along with the appealing aluminum alloy case. Beside “hexa-shell” structure, the brand also brought the term of “flat” into new laptops to create “like-no-other” models.
HP Spectre XT Touchsmart Review - Everything Is Fine Except Battery Life (Part 2)
When we performed our battery test including playing a locally-stored video repeatedly with WiFi on and brightness set at 65 percent, the TouchSmart's four-cell battery lasted four hours. We don't expect long battery life from larger notebooks especially if they have touchscreens but the TouchSmart still falls behind our expectations.
HP Spectre XT Touchsmart Review - Everything Is Fine Except Battery Life (Part 1)
The TouchSmart will look quite familiar to those who have seen Envy Spectre XT. It has the same elegant, all-metal chassis and brushed-silver surface, with a reflective HP logo on the lid.
Lenovo Thinkpad Carbon Touch Ultrabook Review (Part 3)
Lenovo also packed a several own apps, most of which are designed to provide a little built-in support, especially for businesspersons who don't have an IT staff to call. The most useful out of these is Lenovo Support, on which you'll find a Live Tile on Start Menu.
Lenovo Thinkpad Carbon Touch Ultrabook Review (Part 2)
It’s very happy for us that PC makers have used the same accessories in their Windows 8 Ultrabooks, which makes us easy to draw direct comparisons. In this case, the X1 Carbon Touch we tested had a Core i5-3427U microprocessor, reaching the clock speed at 1.8GHz, along with 4GB of RAM.
Lenovo Thinkpad Carbon Touch Ultrabook Review (Part 1)
When Lenovo launched the ThinkPad X1 Carbon, it seemed like the kind of thing ThinkPad fans had been waiting for: an ultraportable with fast performance, a vibrant 1,600x900 screen and, of course, one well-designed keyboard. In fact, we consider it one of our favorite Ultrabooks - not just for businesspeople, but for everyone.
The Transformers (Part 3) : HP Envy X2, Acer Aspire S7, Dell Latitude 10
The X2 has a very solid brushed aluminum body, which also makes it feel a bit heavy, especially when you are comparing it with the more plastic KY ATIV Smart PC. But the clamshell design is more seamless, with even the power and volume buttons being integrated into the top face of the device.
The Transformers (Part 2) : Samsung Ativ Smart PC, Dell XPS 12
With Windows 8 hybrids you will always be wondering if this is a tablet that can become a laptop or a laptop which can become a tablet. With the Samsung Ativ Smart PC, there is no scope for any ambiguity. This is a tablet at heart, and a very good one at that.
The Transformers (Part 1) : Sony Vaio Duo 11
Sony claims its Vaio Duo 11 is the easiest Ultrabook convertible to use with a single motion to do the actual conversion. So we thought this was the first thing we should test with the Duo 11. Yes, it is quite easy to pull the display up to reveal the keyboard in one simple motion. But, no, you cannot do it with one hand.
Acer Aspire V5-551G Review – Laptop Using AMD Trinity 4 Quad-Core Chip
V5-551G is among few laptops using AMD Trinity 4 quad-core chip, featuring powerful graphics with Dual Graphics technology, to meet usage for both working and gaming.
How To Prolong Laptop Battery Life
In addition to the use of battery properly, you can increase the time of using for the laptop battery by turning off unnecessary connections or clean it regularly.
Samsung Ultra 535 AMD-powered Ultraportable Laptop (Part 2)
AMD’s product is made to compete with the ultrabook device using Intel Core i3 processor. However, if judging based on the overall performance, the gap is still pretty far, so this laptop can’t become the real “rival” of ultrabook because the test in measuring performance in processor lags behind, only in the integrated graphics test that AMD can make it a little better.
Samsung Ultra 535 AMD-powered Ultraportable Laptop (Part 1)
Samsung Ultra 535 is the product balanced between performance and mobility because it’s best suited for users who love fashion, meets the working demand and doesn’t cost too much to invest in technology.
Schenker XMG A722 – Powerful Gaming Laptop
The XMG A722 is a 17-inch laptop with some very powerful components. It has Intel Core i7 quad-core processors, 120GB SSD, 500 GB hard disc and Nvidia GeForce GTX 660M graphics chipset.
Toshiba Satellite L855-148 - An Excellent Comprehensive Windows 8 Laptop
It is large, with the size of 380x242x33mm and weight of 2.3kg, but even though it may not be the most portable laptop, the L855-148 is a so powerful computer. Its Intel Core i7-3610QM processor runs at 2.4GHz, but Intel's Turbo Boost technology can increase the clock speed to 3.6GHz when the temperature allows it to.
Lenovo IdeaPad Y480 Review – Laptop With Excellent Construction Quality And Ergonomic Design
IdeaPad Y480 still retains the conventional design of Lenovo’s mobile laptop. It is simple with bezel, sturdy case and striking light-tone details.
Lenovo Yoga 13 Convertible Review – High Performance Laptop
Lenovo Yoga 13 is among the most typical laptops for the trend of “transforming” introduced last year. However, instead of either a design which can slide or a detachable keyboard, the product goes on its own way with a hinge that can swivel by 360 degree to form a tablet if necessary.
Asus Zenbook Prime Touch - Can It Still Win Our Hearts?
Asus’ Zenbook ultrabook has made a reappearance now in the form of the Zenbook Prime Touch. This time lathered with Windows 8 and a touchscreen. Can it still win our hearts?
Maingear Nomad 15 – Don’t Judge A Gaming Laptop By Its Cover
After reviewing the iBuyPower CZ-17 last month and seeing it look nearly identical to our zero-point MSI GT60, we were hoping our next gaming laptop would be a fresh, new design. Unfortunately, Maingear’s Normal 15 apparently uses the same original design manufacturer (ODM) construction as those other two.
