Audio Technica ATH-FC707 - No Headline, Too Busy Enjoy Music

4/3/2013 6:08:29 PM

There is a certain amount of déjà vu here. Haven’t I already reviewed something like this? And it’s from the same manufacturer no less. Well to be frank, the last one had been far less comfortable to use. This one is like ear candy. Delicious candy…

Quite comfy

The ear cups are small. Possibly miniscule. As such, they don’t actually encompass the ear so much as they rest on the earlobes. Yet, it is not an uncomfortable thing. The headband is flexible enough that the whole setup is firm enough to cling to your head, while still being loose enough to avoid pressing down too hard. This is a rare and fairly pleasing experience. You should try it.

Where I listen to music

During this review I went on a voyage of expanding my playlist. Most of it was European heavy metal. The very sort of genre that gives me hope for the future of music. Some people think I am insane for it. It is, however, quite elegant for testing the quality of sound systems. There is the heavy thumping and pounding needed to properly asses the bass properties while also providing higher frequencies rarely found in other top 40 hits. It’s akin to listening to hardcore classical music. Here, the FC707 performs admirably. Indeed, I had been happily locked within my music to accompany me while I work without interruption. It also made it very difficult to ask me anything. Despite the small earcups, the sound isolation is incredible. At most times, you will barely be aware of the background conversations taking place. It will be a dark day when I have to return this
