Description: Sony KDL- 40HX723

Sony 40-inch KDL-40HX723 may not be the largest TV you can buy with the price of $1,050, but it is one of the best-equppied TVs. 400Hz reaction time, 3D support, internet TV feature and perfect as well as unbelievably thin frame attached on the wall can make it become an ideal high-grade TV for small living rooms.

Behind TV, 4 HDMI ports lying with VGA, component and SCART, digital optical and 3.5mm analogue audio inputs, Ethernet, Common Interface slot and 2 USB ports. There is no built-in Wi-Fi, so you will need to buy a separate wireless dongle if wanting to connect TV to the network.  Besides, there is a good reason to do this – with the ability to transmit media DLNA, and quite a lot of internet TV services, as well as catch-up TV from BBC and Channel Five, you can update social network, view the news and weather, or play files from PC or NAS. Our test footage played smoothly with the exception of DivX and XviD files.

If you have USB drive or external hard drive, use can use the second USB port as a basic PVR. The feature of timer and recording in series can be set up via program instruction on the screen although you can only view the channel you are recording since 40HX723 just has one TV tuner. Other disadvantages are that USB drive has to be formatted before being used, and you cannot back up recordings to PC when there is no space on the disk.

Standard sharp footage from the built-in Freeview HD tuner sounds acceptable, with just some noise artcfacts and quite a lot of details. However, HD footage is the place where 40HX723 proves to be outstanding – images appeared to be incredibly sharp and bright, with accurate color recreation and excellent viewing angle. Fast moving footage was extremely smooth thanks to the frame interpolative system called 400Hz MotionFlow, which helped make moving smoother without creating artcfacts.

Sony KDL-40HX723 – Internet TV

Sound quality is beyond average thanks to 3 built-in 10W speakers on TV. We could hear footage from over another average-size room. Lack of bass, excluding maximum volume, leads to the fact that high voice is distorted.

3D images are not shaken – even active 3D glasses ($75 from www.currys.co.uk) worked well I a room with a few different light sources. There is very liitle of crosstalk and shadow even in the fast moving footage.

Thanks to excellent technical features, wonderful image quality and excellent ability to play 3D, it is easy for 40HX723 to be one of the best and most perfect LCD TVs we have ever seen. The quality makes you pay a price because $1,050 is quite much for a 40-inch TV. However, if you have smaller living room and want an excellent 40-inch TV, it is a good bargain.

Summary

Verdict. Being expensive, but this LCD TV is the most perfect and wonderful TV with all features we expect, and image quality is also excellent.
