HP Omni 27

HP's latest AIO is large, encompassing, capable and entertaining.

As far as All-in-One desktop computers go, the larger is certainly the better. And you can't just slap on the biggest screen and claim the crown; you'd have to encompass every aspect that makes an AIO a good AIO -- namely, the specs, audio and display quality. The HP Omni 27 tries all that, and what do you know? They mostly succeed.

The Omni 27 is huge -- you can't expect any smaller when the screen comes in 27-inches. In spite of that, though, it's rather gratifying to find that it's not a bulky, space-devouring machine when placed on the desk. The display sits on a flat, matte stand and you can tilt the screen 25-degress downwards. The combination looks good, in a simple way. Definitely one machine to complement the room.

The design is otherwise pretty standard all across. The power button sits at the top, while the side of the display feature the more accessible USB3.0 ports, the card reader and auxiliary ports. The remaining USB2.0's are placed at the back. As expected of AlOs today, the Omni 27 has in-built Wi-Fi and connects instantaneously with the wireless keyboard and mouse bundled with it.

The 27-inch screen is an impressive one. Not only is it expansive, but it's also qualitative; the colors here are crisp, the images mostly sharp and it has good viewing angles, as well as managing to handle dark images very well. The screen, however, is a little reflective. It's rarely distracting, but you'd notice it if you're picky enough.

You'd probably want to the Omni 27 for work and entertainment, and the specs can definitely provide it. It runs an Intel Core ¡7-2600S processor (clocked at 2.8GHz), a hefty 8GB of RAM and an NVIDIA GT 520M, which is well capable of handling work, HD playback and some gaming. And yes, it features Beats Audio, as typical of HP. The speakers work fantastically and loudly.

“The HP Omni 27 is a big machine with a big heart. As a device of both work and entertainment value, it provides good performance over a large, bright display and excellent audio. Truly, an omnipotent All-in-One desktop computer.”
