Another new way to both customize your Lock
screen and make it more functional is to add app badges to the display.
An app badge—sometimes also called a status badge—is
a small (24 by 24 pixels) notification logo that lets you know the
status of one of your apps. For example, if you have a badge for your
instant messaging client and you have received three IMs that you
haven’t read yet, the badge for that app on your Lock screen will show
that you have three new instant messages. Similarly, you might include
app badges for new tweets, emails, or game invitations.
>>>step-by-step
1. Display the PC Settings window and tap or click Personalize.
2. Choose Lock Screen.
3. In the Lock Screen Apps area, tap or click a + in the apps area. The Choose an App popup window appears.
4. Tap or
click the app you want to add as a badge on your Lock screen. Windows 8
will display the information related to that app on the Lock screen.
Ambience and Data
This
kind of cool, custom, always-updating information isn’t new in the
world of smartphones. Windows Phone has been doing this with status
notifications on live tiles since it first released. Now your Lock
screen will be able to let you know what’s waiting for you even before
you unlock your system. Talk about efficiency.
