NZXT FX 120LB

NZXT turns up in this review with a model, FX 120LB, boxed into a small cardboard box having an oval part cut off.

The packaging

IN addition, the box contains four silicone pins, screws and a PATA power adapter.

The accessories

The accessories

Made in China, the NZXT FX 120LB is priced at $14, plus a 2-year warranty. The 120mm NZXT is different from other fans due to wide gaps between the blades. There are totally 8 small blades which are arranged 15mm distant from the base and 20mm distant from the lowest-level part.

The impeller’s diameter is 111mm. The motor’s is 44mm. This fan weighs 159g.

The NZXT FX 120LB doesn’t use any technological advance. As for features which is visible at first sight, we can only notice the frame’s inferior having ribs which are smoothed out.

Using the small switch on the cable, you can choose one of three speed levels ranging from 1,000 to 2,600RPM. Its specs are: airflow of 35.8 to 96CFM, static pressure of 0.75 to 4.80mm of water, and noise level of 22 to 36.5dBA.

The type of bearing used is Liquid State according to the specs but the fan’s sticker name it in a different way:

Anyway, it is expected have a service life of 35,000h, this figure is not too high for such hi-speed model. The power consumption at the maximum speed is set at 3.6W. The startup voltage is not stated. Its 3-wire cable’s length is 500mm.

Prolimatech Blue Vortex 12

We managed to obtain a very rare product in this review: Prolimatech Blue Vortex 12. It is packed into a cardboard box:

The packaging

The packaging

The cut-off part in the packaging’s front lets you see the blades. The speed of the fan is indicated in specs listed on the back. The fan comes with a PATA power adapter, four screws, and a short cable with a resistor which is for lowering voltage.

The accessories

The accessories

Made in China, the fan costs $7, plus a 1-year warranty.

The fan looks like ordinary ones, yet still eye-catching. The 7-blade impeller appears in contrast with the black frame.

The product’s image

The product’s image

There’s nothing prominent in the Prolimatech Blue Vortex 12 from a view regarding technology. The diameters of its impeller and motor are respectively 111mm and 45mm in diameter. It weighs 135g.

The blades are short and thick, with sharp edges. The frame’s interior has two bevels.

The impeller blades’ surface feels rough when touched but we don’t know whether there’s any technical purpose. The fan has a rated speed of 1,600RPM but you can reduce it down to 1,200RPM via the cable including a cable. At the top speed, the fan produces an airflow of 72.7CFM at 29.1dBA of noise. The static pressure is not claimed.

The paper sticker on the motor informs you the bearing type and power specs.

Power specs

The Prolimatech Blue Vortex 12 is designed to consume under 2.2W of power at 0.18A. Its longevity is not indicated but it is seldom higher than 30,000h. The cable is short (230mm).

Prolimatech Red Vortex 12 LED

Prolimatech’s second model in this review is named Red Vortex 12 LED. Its packaging is identical to the previous one, except for the color.

The packaging

The packaging

The accessories, country of origin and warranty period are the same as from the previous fan yet its price is $10.

The Red Vortex 12 LED has identical size and specs to its blue sibling but it is made of different plastic type, thus it is lighter, 109g. The translucent dark frame harmoniously mixes with the impeller’s translucent red.

Contrary to its blue sibling, the Red Vortex 12 LED has a sticker which is made of plastic, not paper.

In comparison with its blue sibling, the Red Vortex 12 LED eats more power (3.6W) but other specs are the same. However, after a while running, we will able to tell you the actual difference in performance of the Red Vortex 12 LED thanks to different materials.
