Satellite M840 – Colorful And Powerful
While most people love their notebooks or
Ultrabooks to be compact and portable, there still remains a segment of the
market who still like their ‘mobile computers’ to have a bit of heft in them,
accommodating powerful specs whilst sacrificing portability to have
desktop-level performance. This is the Toshiba Satellite M840.
First things first, the M840 comes in three
different shade of colors, which include Gold Blaze, Pink Blush and Blue
Horizon. Our Gold unit looks strikingly fabulous. The M840 features a 14-inch
display with a resolution of 1,366 x 768 pixels, which isn't exactly high
definition, but coupled with the HD Clear SuperView LED display, videos and
games look absolutely superb on this monitor.
With two USB 3.0 ports, one USB 2.0 port,
one VGA, HDMI, a card reader and a DVD-RW drive slotted in, the M840 is a
complete package where notebooks and laptops are concerned.
Powered by Intel's 3rd Generation Core
processor, the M840 performs extremely well regardless of the kind of workload
that you throw at it. Coupled with AMD's Radeon HD7670 graphics processor, we
threw everything including the kitchen sink at it, and the M840 just pretty
much breezes through everything that is thrown at it.
Battery life on the M840 is quite
impressive as well. Despite packing so much power, the notebook lasts an
impressive 5 hours with Wi-Fi turned on and display brightness set to Auto. A
gaming session with a fully charged battery lasted about 3 hours, which is
still pretty long-lasting, all things considered.
The M840 performs extremely well when it
comes to computing performance and features, but it has a rather troublesome
issue, in that it was not very solidly built. The display hinge is one point of
contention, as when we opened and closed the notebook the hinge just felt loose
and not very sturdy. With everything so well made, this comes off as a little
unfortunate.
The
keyboard types very well, but unfortunately the screen hinges feel rather loose.

Conclude
The Toshiba Satellite M840 might not be the
lightest notebooks around, but with the components that are put in to build the
machine; we'd say that the tradeoff is more than worth it, if you're looking
for something that is both powerful and beautiful.
