The new generation on Nvidia Kepler
graphics architecture has finally achieved the professional graphics
accelerators. We were able to put our hands on the first graphics card with the
new architecture designed for high-performance workstations - Quadro K5000.
Let's take a look at how more advanced the new product is when compared with
the good time- experimented Quadro 5000.
In addition to catering to gamers with the
Radeons and GeForces, AMD and Nvidia also expand graphics cards for
professional users. Although both types of solutions are really based on the
same hardware parts, these two markets are completely different for several
reasons. First and foremost, the professional applications for 3D modeling or
high-performance computing are a different kind of load compared to other video
games. Then, professional users expect better tech support and close stability
and reliability requirements. That is the reason why the graphics cards for the
applications of CAD/CAM and HPC must be discussed particularly.

Quadro K5000 Professional Graphics Card
The best demonstration of the different
nature of the professional graphics market is the fact that it is not shared in
the same way as the graphics card market for games. It is controlled by Nvidia,
where the graphics card has been enjoyed and shared higher than 80% for many
years. And although the number of professional users is not as large as the
number of millions of people playing the game, this market is really
significant for the GPU manufacturers. The same cost to make the same parts for
gaming, but professional products are priced much higher, bring a lot of
profit, which is the reason why AMD and Nvidia are making efforts to win
professional users.

After selling out the new graphics
architectures in early 2012, both AMD GCN AMD and Nvidia Kepler manufacturers
updated their line of professional products in the last 6 months of the year.
In this way, we can note that the professional solutions sold after their
components have been extensively experimented in gamer-oriented products. It
takes a period of time to complete the drivers and verify that the new GPUs are
compatible with the applications of CAD / CAM. As a result, Nvidia just updated
the Tesla series in the first six months of the year, AMD sells new products
and promises FirePro W product line in August, and then in September Nvidia
launched a new professional product based on Kepler - called Quadro K5000.
In
reality, the low popularity of the AMD FirePro series may be partly due to
insufficiently positive marketing.
Today, we will have a view on the latest
graphics card from Nvidia designed for high-performance workstations and
compare its speed with the previous solutions, which based on Fermi.
Unfortunately, we cannot add an AMD card because we did not have it available
at the time of review. In reality, the low popularity of the AMD FirePro series
may be partly due to insufficiently positive marketing.
