Performance
Our initial performance tests proved that
we were able to use the standard Intel NASPT templates during grading system.
We used the WD2002FYPS HDDs. You can see the results on the following chart:
The
results of performance testing
The fastest read and write speeds are 100
and 80 MB/s. The external hard drive can compare the performance with two RAID1
disks. Compared to the other NAS storage devices with the same hardware, the
Sentinel DX4000 is slightly slower than average.
It should be noted that the synthetic
system scoring process is similar to identifying file reading indicators and
writing scenarios. The backup process is probably to work more differently.
When making a copy to system hard disk of the client computer, the integrated
backup service operated with the speed of about 13 MB/s (20 minutes to make a
copy for 15 GB of data).
Conclusion
With its nice design and full of
applications, faster hardware platform (despite outdated), a small size, USB
3.0, two Ethernet ports, and two HDD slots, the Sentinel DX4000 is a
significant step forward for Western Digital to come into the NAS storage
device market.

In contrast to the hardware, Windows
Storage Server 2008 R2 Essentials has left us a puzzled thing. The truth is
that Windows itself is very good, since it may be necessary for some usage
scenarios. It has a convenient backup system for Windows client computers and
the remote access feature is very interesting. However, this version of Windows
is quite difficult for non-professional users to manage. The default program
does not provide plenty of popular probabilities as FTP servers, UPS support,
multiple disk volumes, iSCSI, expandable backup copy options, notifications,
and mobile applications. Of course, many of these features can be done in
Windows, but you need desktop access and OS management capabilities with full features.
Although the standard WSS environment will interact with new applications is
something unclear.
Thus, Windows is not an obligation, the NAS
storage devices on the Linux operating system seem more appropriate for the use
at home and SOHO users. They create broader functions. They tend to be easier
to set up and manage.

For the price factor, the Sentinel DX4000
comes with the high-end HDDs, which are very expensive products. That is why it
has not reasonable prices, but is very expensive even.
