There’s no denying that ultrabooks
are popular
They also come in various shapes and sizes,
which means there is a definite premium grade. The Series 9 Ultrabook is
undeniably the 1%.
Samsung
Series 9 Ultrabook
Straight out of the box, this is one
stunning ultrabook. It’s slim, 12.9mm to be precise, and doesn’t weigh much
either, at 1.16 kilos. The fit and finish is superb as well, although the
downside of those dimensions is that ports on the shell are fewer than you
would expect. On the upside, you won’t have any portability issues.

The 13.3in HD LED display on the Series 9
is up there with the best in terms of brightness and quality, while the
anti-reflective coating makes a big difference to viewing ease. The only
disappointment is the fact that it isn’t Full-HD, the maximum resolution only
going up to 1600x90. You can barely tell the difference, though, and it’s still
an excellent display.

The hard drive on this ultrabook is a
single 256GB solid state drive. This makes a couple of big performance
differences: 1) It boots up in about 6-7 seconds and wakes up from sleep mode
in less than 2 seconds. 2) Battery usage is lower than on most ultrabooks, and
this one goes a full 7-8 hours on a full battery charge. Useful and very
efficient.
The powertrain on the Series 9 is a
powerful Ivy Bridge Core i7 with 4GB of RAM. The speakers are pretty decent as
well, while the green backlight on the keyboard is a good touch. The result is
an extremely zippy machine that can handle even the most challenging tasks. All
of this justifies the massive price tag to some extent, but it’s still an
expensive ultrabook.

Dell
XPS 13
The XPS 13 packs in similarly slim
dimensions and performance and specs that are more or less equal to the Series
9, but can be bought for much less money. It doesn’t quite look as good as the
Samsung, though.

Ratings: 5/5 stars
It's a beautiful, slim ultrabook that
performs brilliantly, but costs a bit more than it should
