HTC One X - This Is The One

HTC's newest smartphone is nothing short of a masterpiece

The HTC One X is HTC's magnum opus. Every part of the phone; every design choice, every curve and edge, seems to have been crafted with a master's care. You feel it firsthand when you hold it; you notice how the polycarbonate chassis is tough and solid, and you feel how light and slim it is. You see that the 4.7-inch display is undeniably one of the best out there -- bright, crisp and in glorious HD.

There are other fantastic design choices, like the pour-resistant speakers, but the care in design also extends to the interiors as well. The HTC One X is a powerful machine, running a 1.5GHz quad core processor (NVIDIA Tegra 3) to good effect. The phone is snappy and can run apps with nary a hitch. The user experience is further enhanced with the HTC Sense 4 Ul, which works well and doesn't bog down with needless additions. The only thing we find missing here? The lack of expandable storage via microSD.

The One X's experience is broken down to two other main components: the camera and audio. Most phones either go all out in providing excellent picture quality or supplement a middling one with better features. The One X goes for both: the 8-megapixels camera (with an f2.0 lens) manages good picture quality that is sharp and performs well in low light. The camera is fast and is capable of 4fps burst shots for an astounding 99 shots. You can also take hi-res photos during your HD video, and hi-res stills during video playback. No doubt, possibly the best overall camera experience in any phone.

The audio experience here is elevated by Beats Audio integration throughout other aspects of the phone, and not just the audio player. Watching YouTube videos, playing games and running apps can be supplemented by Beats Audio now, but the multimedia enjoyment goes beyond that. With the Media Link accessory, users can share their screen on an HDTV. So yeah; you can now play Angry Birds on TV. The only real flaw to the phone is the battery life, which could do better; it can last 12 hours with careful use, but otherwise saps out on video and games.
