ASUS Eee Pad Transformer Tab makes its way
into the hearts and wallets of the thrifty ones
The ASUS Eee Pad line up has always been
regarded as one of the best Android-based tablets recently, but such
sophisticated devices typically come with a pretty hefty price tag. Addressing
the concern of those who want a powerful tablet at a large fraction of the
price for one, ASUS has recently launched the new Eee Pad Transformer Tab
TF300.
At first glance, the Tab closely resembles
the original Eee Pad Transformer, with the only noticeable difference is that
the Tab's chassis is fully plastic. The body of the tablet itself only features
a micro HDMI port and a 3.5mm headphone port.
Unlike the original Transformer however,
the keyboard dock is not an optional extra, but instead is bundled together
with the tablet itself, much like the Prime. Also like the Prime, charging is
done via the keyboard dock. The battery life for the Tab itself is estimated at
about 10 hours, with brightness on Auto and WiFi turned on. With the dock, it
adds an extra five hours to the lifespan, so you won't have to worry about
running out of battery even after a day's worth of use.
The most interesting part about the
Transformer Tab, we feel, is that despite being marketed as a entry-level
tablet, is that it feels like nothing of the sort. Powered by NVIDIA's Tegra 3
quad-core processor, the Ice Cream Sandwich-based tablet's interface works as
smooth as butter.
The 10.1 inch display of the Tab also works
wonders and has the same 10 point touch interface that is enjoyed by the Prime.
Similar in resolution (1280 x 800), the Tab plays back 1080p videos for
breakfast, and 3D intensive games for lunch and dinner.
