iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. : Ourcast

Ourcast isn’t just a weather app, it’s a social weather app. Amazingly enough, the social features offered here aren’t just throwaway junk capitalizing on the ‘checking-in’ phenomenon that has taken over our social lives. And Ourcast will surely only get better as more people adopt it.

Description: Ourcast

The main screen displays the current weather, temperature and the current rainfall measure with a more detailed rainfall count every ten minutes below. Okay, so far it’s definitely a weather app! But users can check-in with a status and an icon displaying the type of weather they are currently experiencing. And there are more than enough icons such as ‘good gardening weather’ than you’ll ever need to use.

Check-ins can be shared via Facebook or Twitter but they this is not mandatory; an option most check-in apps don’t allow. Users can make a check-in that is only visible to others users of the app so anyone following you on Twitter doesn’t get a boring, useless (to them) weather update. But if it is something you want all your friends and followers to see, then you are more than welcome.

The map view, icons from other users check-ins displayed as well as the radar so over time, as more people use Ourcast, it would become particularly useful to the see the weather local to your areas especially if you’re headed out to an event or some sort of outing.

As weather apps go, this is very good but the social aspects take this outside the box, making it just that little bit more interesting and fun. It doesn’t need millions of users to be a good app, but with more and more people using Ourcast, it will only make it that much more useful.
