When it comes to Blu-ray players, the
quantity is slowly increasing as more and more people are getting HDTVs that
can view better image quality. But under normal circumstances, a Blu-ray player
is just that. Offering more connectivity options with its newest Bluray player
is Sharp and its updated BD-AMS20A. With minor differences than its
predecessor, let’s see if improvement reflects the need for a new model.

Enter Tron
With a polish design, I can’t help but feel
this player comes from the Tron feature film. The lines used on the BD-AMS20A
re-enacts the trail left by the bikes from Tron and funnily enough, it still
feels old school. Even the timer feels like the first digital clock produced.
Don’t get me wrong, I like how it looks like. The built seems sturdy but there
are creaks here and there so I am extra careful when operating it. With all the
buttons at the front, it is very easy to access the controls. However, there
are times when the buttons are stuck and it requires some effort to ‘unstuck’
it.

Speedy setup
The
new addition offers a Mobile High-Definition Link (MHL), aside from the usual
HDMI output, Ethernet port and a pair of USB ports
After spending a very short time hooking it
up (the manual helps a lot!), I gladly put on a few of my favorite movies to
watch. Let’s just say the results are impressive. During a run-through of
Avengers, the amount of fine detail and sharpness are stunning! Colors take a
darker tone but no complaints there because that’s just the way I like it.
Those who prefer a balanced view may need to do a little adjustment. But that
should not hinder the overall experience you get while watching it.
Critical updates
The new addition offers a Mobile
High-Definition Link (MHL), aside from the usual HDMI output, Ethernet port and
a pair of USB ports. This is great for those who just want to beam their
smartphones’ contents to a big TV. It works great for sharing things with
family and friends but the video playback can be jerky at times. It could be
the hardware limitations of the smartphone but I will still safely assume that
movies would run well in the phone.
