Of course, you can see the impact of
Windows 8 on new user interface of Norton Antivirus. The main window of this
powerful software has big touching buttons to navigate the features of the
program. However, with the attractive appearance, all the advanced features and
smooth configuration options are still present.

Strong protection to against threats
Norton detected 89 percent of threats on 12
testing system that is infected malware, a similar rate with Kaspersky
Anti-Virus (2013). Norton has advantage with the ability to remove malware; it
gets 6.6 points and defeats 6.5 points of Kaspersky. Like Kaspersky, Daily
Safety Check Home Edition, and Bitdefender Antivirus Plus 2013, Norton detected
all samples using rootkit technology. Norton won 8.4 points for rootkit remove
ability; it is only defeated by Kaspersky (9.4).
With malware blocking tests, Norton
detected 84 percent of threats, but it could not prevent the installation of
the survival malware. 8.4 points of Norton on the ability to prevent malware
seem a bit below average, but the software stops every rootkit samples.
When I tried to download every template
again, I received a sign of the strength to prevent multi-block of Norton. Of
course, some URLs are no longer valid. Norton has navigated the browser out of
1/3 of the remaining URLs, and its Download Insight feature deleted 2/3 of the
others. My experience with the real download of the threats showed that in
real-world conditions, Norton will be more effective than in my malware blocking
test.
Most of the big laboratories include Norton
in their normal tests. ICSA Labs and West Coast Labs certificated the Symantec
technology to detect and remove malware, and it achieved VB100 certification in
9/10 latest tests of Virus Bulletin. AT-Test certified antivirus engine based
on the success in three areas: protection, repair and usability. With 6 points
in each area, a product needs total 11 points in order to achieve
certification. With 15.5 points, Symantec surpasses that goal easily.
Norton has powerful built-in protection to
prevent Web-based attacks which take advantage of vulnerabilities in the
operating system. I attacked one testing system by using Core IMPACT intrusion
tool to create the exploits. Norton arrested all 30 exploits and gave one short
message to let you know the system is under attack. This is extremely
impressive.
Additional features
Norton Antivirus installed one convenient
toolbar in the browser, which does some things. It provides access to Norton
Safe Website rating system. Norton will completely block famous malicious
sites; the colors of Safe Web icon warn you about the unsure website. It also
marks the search results with the safety symbols. The shopping website has
additional symbols if Norton identifies them as legitimate and they include the
protection of privacy of transactions. You can also run Safe Web on Facebook
account and search for any malicious links. On the toolbar, you'll find buttons
for Norton Identity Safe, a complete password manager that will fill in web
forms for you.
It
provides access to Norton Safe Website rating system.
Once you launch it, the Network Security
Map allows you to get detailed information on other systems on your home
network that is running Norton. However, if you have problems, you have to use
another computer to solve it.
3 icons on the right of main window provide
access to other Norton products and services. An icon checks your Norton Online
Backup account status, if any. Another icon launches Norton Management to help
you manage equipment and licenses. If you are Norton One user, it will bring
back Norton One. The third icon brings a QR code and a link that allow you to
install Norton Mobile Security on your Android device.
Still a winner
Previous version of Norton AntiVirus kept
the highest score on the ability to remove malware in all the tested products
with my previous malware collection. The current version has repeated that
result, it is at the top of the products tested with my current collection. It
did not get good score as in the block test, but I'm pretty sure that in the
real world, the other layer of protection will activate and stop more threats.
Besides prominent antivirus protection,
Norton AntiVirus provides many useful additional features that are related to
security. It is still the Editors' Choice for commercial antivirus software,
sharing that honor with Bitdefender Antivirus Plus 2013 and Webroot
SecureAnywhere Antivirus.
