Both cameras have pretty small grip as standard, with a rubber pad for the thumb on the back. Olympus OM-D E-M5 has selections for 2-tray battery case, or instead of that both cameras can fit perfectly into a half-leather-made bag, because leather makes it easier for the process of holding the camera.

Battery

Battery life and efficiency have been improved, allowing E-P5 being able to take 400 shots, compared to 330 shots on OM-D E-M5, which will be good news to those who want bettr battery life characteristic from the camera.

Speed

AF speed has been improved on Olympus PEN E-P5, and first impression is good, though we need to receive the camera to perform our full-speed benchmarks.

The 3inch-tilted screen has improved res, but only thanks to the thicker surround which makes the screen on par with the back of the camera, creating E-P5 a neat-looking back. You can also see the difference in the size between the viewfinders, if you choose an electric VF-4 viewfinder with E-P5, it has 2.36million dot res and a wider viewing angle with the optical adjustability, as well as being designed with the eye-detecting sensor.

Performance

We expect that the performance of E-P5 will be similar if not, identical to OM-D E-M5, though it could have been improved further to have the image quality implemented, and we will have a full surgery on an E-P5 when it’s available. It may have advantages in image quality which is due to the additional flexibility provided by faster shutter speed and low ISO settings, allowing setting wider lens aperture for the deeper focusing process in bright condition.

Rating

Olympus PEN E-P5 is now one of the cameras having highest technical specs of the Olympus Micro Four Thirds family which is available on the market. The main difference between the cameras, internal electric viewfinders, weather-affection proof and battery tray options, with OM-D E-M5 will be much more suitable for the outdoor photographers, while the small size of Olympus PEN E-P5 will be suitable for those who want to travel with the same image quality between the 2 products.
