Features
Nikon 1 J3 has a 14.2 megapixel CMOS sensor
to provide fast and accurate AF and ISO up to 6,400. It can also capture up to
15 fps with autofocus and 60fps with focus on a fixed point.
J3 offers some unique features that you
will find on Nikon cameras. Live Image Control allows you to see the impact of
changing to exposure settings in real time and Slow View takes to 20
consecutive images and displays them as slow motion, you can then select the
exact moment you want to shoot. Smart Photo Selector will take many pictures
and will save 5 best photos-based algorithms, use information such as glance in
portrait to determine the best picture. Motion Snapshot takes slow shooting
just before you hit the shot. There is also Creative Mode shooting mode as well
as PSAM. You can also shoot panoramic by scan method.
Video is recorded in full 1080p HD and you
can take photos full resolution 3:2 during recording. There is a Movie Mode
Advanced mode to convert smooth autofocus and you can also use PSAM control to
set the shutter speed and aperture, as well as record slow motion film.
If you've ever owned any Nikkor lenses you
can buy FT1 lens mount adapter to use them on the J3, if they are AF-S Nikkor
lenses you can still use autofocus, the other lenses are only manual focus. To
transfer images to your phone or tablet we have Wireless Mobile Adapter WU-1b,
can also buy separately. There is also a GR-N2100 Grip and a WP-N2 waterproof

Handling
Nikon 1 J3 has a very compact aluminum
camera body. It's not small enough to carry in a pocket, but small camera
pocket, Amica Manfrotto 10 is good enough. 10-30mm lens has a rubberized ring
around the lens to aid grip and the lens can become compact when no use. There
is a button to open and lock it, when released the camera will turn on, when
compacted back, it will turn off.
J3 has a menu button on the top, along the
power button, shutter button and the movie record button. On the back are the
playback button, menu and delete and rotating wheel to flip menu. Rotating
wheel can also be used as a navigation bar allows to access the self-timer,
continuous shooting, flash, and exposure compensation and feature button, they allow
to access to different settings based on the mode you're using. On the left
side of the camera is a button to release the flash.
The 3in screen has a good colors 921k
resolution and so bright when viewed in the light variety. J3 has better layout
menu that makes navigation easily, although instead of using the menu button,
PSAM modes are accessed by using creative mode via the function button.
Battery life is rated at 220 photos
Battery life is rated at 220 photos according to CIPA test results,
quite short, so you may want to consider buying a spare battery. We took some
photos to test the response of the camera, from the opening of the first photo,
turn over each one in turn, focus speed, etc.... We have some photos and then
use average to ensure the accuracy and consistency, make it easy to compare
with other cameras.
