Zotac GeForce GTX TITAN AMP! Edition 6 GB And TITAN Graphics Cards (Part 1)

9/23/2013 3:39:10 PM

We will talk about the fastest GeForce GTX TITAN graphics accelerator that produced mass with the air cooling as well as the results of the TITAN card pair in 2-way SLI configuration.

Zotac GeFore GTX Titan AMP! Edition 6GB is currently the fastest version with the GeForce GTX Titan cooler that is mass produced. Other brands also offer the versions with higher GPU frequencies, but they are also equipped with the liquid cooling. Zotac also has higher memory frequencies, before overclocking significantly about 10%. So Zotac GeForce GTX Titan AMP edition seems to be the fastest single GPU graphics card until mid-June, 2013. That's why we have to test it. We will also test the effectiveness of SLI technology that is installed into two GeForce GTX Titan card types in the new game and with the new drivers. Let's get started!

Packing and Accessories

The brightly colored box of this graphics card surely attracts the attention of buyers. The card name, memory capacity and warranty, all are printed on the packaging. There is also a sticker with information about the games.

Accessories

Zotac GeForce GTX Titan AMP! Edition comes on sale for nearly $ 1,150. This is a very high price, as the other Titan cards. The warranty period lasts two years but you can extend to five years by registering your card at Zotac's official website. Equipment is manufactured in China.

Functionality and design

Zotac GeForce GTX Titan AMP! Edition follows the reference designs, so apparently it is an exact copy of the standards of NVIDIA for GTX Titan.

The cooling system does not make any difference.

Despite of having the increased pulses frequency, Zotac GeForce GTX Titan AMP! Edition has standard power requirements: 250 watts for the card and 600 watts for computer.

We will benchmark a pair of SLI and the card provides two SLI connectors.

Because Zotac GeForce GTX Titan AMP! Edition is a copy of the reference design, so we do not disturb the cooling system to capture and check its GPU manufacture date. We just put the card in our test.

The GPU-Z utility has confirmed the specifications that you can find in the official website. The GPU’s basic clock frequency is 902 MHz and the increased clock frequency is 954 MHz. It is higher than 65 MHz (or 7.8%) when comparing to the reference GTX Titan.

There are two types of EVGA cards which have faster GPU (928/980 MHz), but they accompany by a liquid cooling. Zotac version has the highest memory clock frequency. It is at 6,608 MHz or above 10% when comparing to the reference frequency. Judge by ASIC Quality report of GPU-Z, our GPU is not the best quality possible.

Now we check the temperature of the card. To do this, we use five standard times of Alien vs Predator (2010) at the highest images quality setting, at a resolution of 2,560x1,440 pixels and with 16x anisotropic filtering and 4x MSAA.

We used MSI Afterburner 3.0.0 beta 9 and GPU-Z version 0.7.1 to monitor the temperature inside a closed system shell, the configuration is discussed in detail in the next section of the review. All tests are taken place at 25°C room temperature.

With the cooling fan is adjusted automatically, the GPU gets hot 82°C. Fans turned up to a speed of 2,550RPM.

Thus, although the pulse frequency increases, Zotac GeForce GTX Titan AMP! Edition is not hotter than the reference NVIDIA GeForce GTX Titan. Take note that the GPU frequency is up to 1,032 MHz peak when the regulations have reloaded for the next run, however the card has passed the test with 954 MHz.

At maximum speed of fan (4,300 RPM) GPU is cooler, its highest temperature is only 60°C.

Now we can proceed to test its overclocking capabilities.

Overclocking potential

We used EVGA Precision X version 4.1.0 to set power goals and the highest temperature for Zotac GeForce GTX Titan AMP! Edition

Overclocking test settings

Overclocking test settings

We can remind you that the Nvidia reference card is managed to overclock up to 972/1,011/7,308 MHz, this is a pretty good result. Zotac added 60 MHz to its GPU frequency and 640 MHz to the memory frequency, so the results are somewhat lower clock frequency than the Nvidia’s.

In fact we were not lucky with the card form of Zotac. Its temperature does not change after we overclocked it.
