Sony Alpha NEX-5R Review – Part 2

1/14/2013 11:47:34 AM

The equipment is supported with system of cross–bred focusing with 99 grades and 25 contrastively detective areas that make speed become faster. Camera can shoot with 10 picture frames/second and focus continuously. This speed is nearly similar to professional camera. Efficiency of focusing becomes excellent due to Fast Hybrid AF system and it can shoot continuously with 10 picture frames/second. In addition, it can focus for each photograph continuously (AF Tracking). Process of handling photographs isn’t as good as DRSL, but its efficiency is higher than point and shot camera.

Sweep panorama is the first feature that we should mention to. Although photograph’s quality is not perfect, it makes users satisfy to record large contexts. In the past, people would take 3 photographs and then combined them. However, nowadays, people only need to press functional button and follow arrow’s direction.

The ability of shooting 20-30 types in 5-6 seconds depends on sweeping speed and it takes less than 2 seconds to combine them to panorama photograph. The next function is Handheld Twilight that is used to shoot dusk. It allows shooting a lot of photographs and combing them together and the ability of eliminating noise to create photographs with best quality.

However, some colors aren’t exact. For example, green is often colored, yellow seems to be darker or pink is brighter than usual. At present, compact or DSRL camera cannot overcome wrong problem of color, so we can accept this thing.

NEX-5R is the first separated lens of Sony that integrates standard Wi-Fi with 802.11b/g. In addition, it also has Play Memories Camera Apps that is plentiful. To download application, users must have an account on Sony Entertainment Network. Some typical applications are Smart Remote Control, Picture Effect, Direct Upload….

This function of connecting online helps users control to shoot from a distance with Smart Remote Control application by smartphones (using Android OS or iOS), share photographs through network or store with Direct Upload. Users can use standard DLNA to connect equipment in family’s entertaining system to broadcast photographs or video. When we control from a distance by using telephone, photograph’s parameter doesn’t appear.

Moreover, in all of the modes, users can set up ISO to adjust min, max. This is an interesting function in controlling photograph’s quality, especially to night because when ISO increases to 1,600, it will cause serious noise.

5R’s ISO range stretches like high-ranking 80-25, 600 DSLR camera. Moreover, it has 16.1 megapixel sensor to eliminate.

It can record standard Full HD video, format 16.1 megapixels and its speed can reach to 60 picture frames/second. It has higher quality than cameras that have the same type. If users format MP4, picture frames’ speed is 30 picture frames/second and has 1,440x1,080 pixel resolution.

Sony Nex-5R is equipped with Sony Nex-5R battery that has 1,080 mAh capacity. It is similar to Sony SLT-A37 that appeared in the last May. However, charging battery is a complex problem because it doesn’t have equipment that is only spent charging. Users must use equipment to convert and charge battery through micro USB gate. When we charge battery fully, battery can be used to shoot about 300 times, nearly 22 minutes to record HD video. However, the number can change when people use Wi-Fi or adjust to camera. Camera is rather hot if it is used continuously. When camera alert that battery is out of, users should turn off camera and meet late state. In this situation, camera doesn’t turn off immediately, but it continuously runs application for a while before turning off completely.

Image quality

The quality of recorded NEX-5R image is rather good although it is set up with high ISO. The ability of bright balance is good and color is warm and rather beautiful on 3-inch screen.

Photograph is taken from ISO3200. Although it has a lot of noise, this thing can be accepted.

Photograph is taken in the evening. It doesn’t use supportive equipment to prevent shaking, so the quality of recorded photographs is low.

Video quality

When we use Sony NEX-5R to record video with AVCHD formatting, the maximum resolution is 1,920x1,080 pixels; it takes 50 picture frames/second and 1,440x1,080 pixels. When we record with MP4 formatting, it will take 25 picture frames/second.

Users can use professional Movie button on camera’s body instead of choosing recording mode in Menu.

We tested to record video under sunlight, NEX-5R processed light and unexpected changes rather well. Quality of recording sound is not really excellent. It has interference but we can accept it.

We tested to record video with light, image’s quality is good, but it’s difficult in focusing.
