The $699 Leica V-Lux 40

7/31/2012 9:31:50 AM

V-Lux 40 has bigger optical zoom range, better focus than the older version. Captured photos are quite sharp even at the biggest optical zoom.

This is the second V-Lux 40 which has been integrated with GPS and bears some resemblances to Panasonic DMX-TZ30/ZS20.

The device has a 15.3MP sensor, 14MP effective resolution, 24 - 480 zoom lens and an ability of capturing Full DH1080p videos. The model also owns a 3 inch display with 460,000 pixel resolution. When buying this product, users will be given free Photoshop Elements 10 and Premier Elements 10.

Apparently, V-Lux 40’s design is similar to V-Lux 30. One difference is that the lens casts a glow of shining gem and it’s a bit longer than one of the older version due to bigger zoom. The top edge doesn’t partially grow out like it used to. Upper control keys don’t change but a half shorter than another top edge.

A considerable upgrade is that V-Lux comes with much faster focal speed than the previous version though it can be compared with today’s top models. The 460,000 pixel screen doesn’t display sharply. However, not only does V-Lux 40 own poor quality screen, other hi-end models like M9 or X2 does, too.

Leica’s compact camera is enclosed with a small charger similar to cellphone’s charger. Users don’t need to remove the battery, they can to plug connect the camera with the power cable directly. In addition, it’s possible to recharger the camera via USB connection with PC.

RRP is $900.
