SteelSeries as a brand has a knack of
re-releasing their products, be it a version two of existing lineups or making
game-related limited edition product tie-ins for games such as the upcoming
Diablo 3, so there is little surprise that the gaming peripherals company has
launched a V2 of their entry level gaming mouse, the SteelSeries Kinzu.
The Kinzu, as one might expect from just
looking at it, is quite the typical looking mouse. Featuring four buttons,
including one for CPI (counts per inch) changes, there is little else to look
at other than cosmetics as the Kinzu v2 now comes in five different colours,
which include white, blue, yellow, orange and black.
Now by saying this we're not saying that
the Kinzu is a bad mouse at all; far from it in fact. The Kinzu may not have
the bells and whistles of other gaming mice that we have reviewed as of late,
but it does what it's supposed to extremely well. The CPI count button, for
instance, instantly changes the mouse's sensitivity levels from 400, 800, 1600
and 3200 CPI instantly on the fly.
The double braided anti-tangle cord not
only avoids tangle problems with other devices, it also serves as a durable
means to protect the wires in the cable from snapping due to wear and tear.
Using the SteelSeries Engine software, you
can also do quite a bit even with a mouse like the Kinzu. These include options
such as customizing CPI settings. Programming what each mouse button does,
record macros from games, and even tracking button usage statistics. Unlike
other gaming mice, there is no limit to the number of profiles that you can
create on the Kinzu (or other SteelSeries mice, in fact), so you can customize
it to your heart's content.
