Gigabyte U2442 V2 has been assigned to the ultrabook series but its performance is powerful enough to replace traditional laptops, which is good for work and especially meets the mobile entertainment needs.

The configuration of the new Gigabyte's ultrabook model is highly regarded with its midget graphics card Nvidia GeForce GT 640M, memory system (RAM) up to 8 GB DDR3 (bus 1600 MHz) and the storage system between solid-state drive used for system partition (the partition in which the operating system and software are installed) and a traditional hard drive (HDD) with 750 GB capacity of storage for games, high-definition screen. Besides, V2 U2442 also is equipped with a 14-inch LED screen, HD+ resolution (1,600x900 pixels) in order to better meet the demand for gaming and entertainment.

Its dimensions are 33.9x23.3x2.1 cm and 1.69 kg in weigh, which is not too heavy for those users on the go. With a forward tapered design, U2442 V2 brings more lightweight feel, despite the fact its thickness and weight are a slight edge over Intel's ultrabook standards.

A plus in U2442 V2's design is its graphics card's cooling system and its own designed processor increasing the cooling effect and minimizing the noise. However, the sound is just "mediocre", which should be investigated further in order to meet the needs of high-quality mobile entertainment.

Port, the ability of upgrade

Due to thin limitations of ultrabook standard, U2442 V2 has no built-in optical drive, but still fully supports universal and serial connectivity such as VGA output, HDMI, 4 USB ports including 2 USB 3.0 ports and 2 USB 2.0 ports, a "3 in 1" memory card reader, headphone and microphone jacks. It also supports wireless connections such as Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi 802.11n and gigabit Ethernet connections

The ability to upgrade hardware components according to user needs is mainly RAM while other components such as hard drive, processor or graphics card are more difficult, requiring the lid off the bottom. The fact that the default configuration fully satisfies most users' needs so the upgrade is not necessary.

RAM upgrade is simple and easy.

Interacting with users

Vertical viewing angle is considerably narrower than the horizontal viewing angle

Vertical viewing angle is considerably narrower than the horizontal viewing angle

Ultrabook U2442 is equipped with a LED LCD, HD+ resolution (1,600x900 pixels) offers a better space for working and entertaining. Testing showed that the actual image quality is quite good, the horizontal viewing angle is quite wide while the vertical viewing angle is significantly narrower. In an office environment, visual display is brilliant, sharp but when used outdoors or under strong light condition, image quality significantly reduced due to the light scattering technology (anti-glare ) and the brightness is only moderate.

Besides, this ultrabook model is only equipped with an usual screen so it cannot make good use of the touch interface design Modern UI of Windows 8. The interaction with the user is still using the traditional method which is keyboard and touchpad.

Large size keypress with proper gaps make it very comfortable to use

Chiclet keyboard has a seamless block design, smooth keypress and the gaps between keys are short. The distance between keys are reasonably fitted with large size user's hand.  Although the sensitivity of keypress is not perfect but it is good enough to "surf" on the keyboard when typing text quickly. In addition, the keyboard backlight is equipped with light sensors which auto-adjust brightness depending on the using environment.

Large size touchpad has a slightly textured surface with tiny dots that create friction that prevent the mouse from moving quickly while ensuring high accuracy. Two separate left, right keys, light keypress, easy to use.
