Multifunction Printer Group Test (Part1) : Canon Pixma MG2250, Canon Pixma MX895

1/28/2013 9:17:40 AM

A multifunctional printer at $72 (and $49 online) does not need to show much features. This Canon is not the multifunction printer with the most elegant style, and it occupies much space. It can be put on the shelf (a little deep), with all relevant sectors are attached in the front.

MG2250 is attached many buttons, and even you do not have graphics screen - a text screen that allows you to adjust some settings, no memory card reader or PictBridge port, so you cannot connect the external device. You can also use several utilities without connect to the PC, but we will not recommended Canon for this purpose.

There is just one installed paper tray, although it can store 100 sheets - not bad, basing on the price. The tray to contain printed paper is also present, so paper will not fall into the floor.

You will not wish to have any networking facility at this price, and USB 2.0 is the only physical interface. Canon has tried to make the use of this model be more convenient by packing a lot of software. It has Print Your Day application for Facebook, while My Image Garden and Creative Park Premium give you many options to organize and manipulate the image.

MG2250 is quite slow. In Normal text mode, we recorded the speed of 7.1ppm, it only loses 1.4ppm compared to the fastest setting. The text is bolder than Normal mode although the characters are still slightly blurry. Even the best output still lacks of clarity despite its slow 1.9ppm output speed.

Canon proved its success in the printing of graphics, although it is not fast in the first time. Fastest 3.2ppm mode is too slow, and average mode only reaches the speed of 2.1ppm in our tests. Palette is balance in an interesting way though it does not show much detail and color accuracy. Canon is the slowest printer here that can produce a 4x6in image with the lack of vivid colors, but the output is quite good.

Canon proved its success in the printing of graphics, although it is not fast in the first time.

The cost of printing is too expensive with this cheap model: 2.8p per each black page and 4.5p for each color page.

When copying, MG2250 loses details. However, it's quite fast here, and even at 600dpi, it only needs 35 seconds to copy our testing document. The color is lighter than it should be, with the obvious lack of completion. The lid is a little weak, even though it can adjust easily and allow you to scan big documents.

Canon Pixma MX895

It is exciting to see a multifunctional printer that offers fax facility and Ethernet and concludes that it is a business model. However, Canon MX895 is better than any other multifunctional printer we've seen, it serves all users.

Specifically, it serves everyone, except for those very small because of this machine is very big. Designed with stubby pyramid format, it is difficult to hide its bulky although it does a good job of hiding many features behind separate doors.

While HP printers have touch screen, Canon adds many buttons for the 3in graphics screen. Lovely interface lights and make the buttons dim when necessary. It is good for a feature-rich model, helping you to use it easily whether the PC is connected or not.

We may mention many connectivity options Wi-Fi and Ethernet (with Bluetooth is optional) struggle with the PictBridge and memory card for SD cards, MemoryStick, CompactFlash, xD-Picture Card and so on. MX895 can also get files from Canon's online cloud services, and the mobile devices can also communicate. Besides, ADF 35 sheets are good at copying and faxing.

This is not the fastest printer in here: black and white speed in the Fast and Normal mode is 11.9ppm and 8.9ppm, it is lower than the speed of HP 7520. The graphics is not really fast, though in the middle mode, it has created 3.1ppm competitive speed. However, the quality of Canon printer is at the top.

Colors are splendid, the characters are sharp and focused. With the addition of dedicated photo printer, the result is beautiful. MX895 has clever picture structure with the deep colors and the great attention to detail.

The cost of printing is not cheap, with 2.9p for a text page, and 12.5p for a colored page.

Scan component works very well; it also adds a lot of colors and sharp details for the document. Copy utility is never incorrect like that with the source document. However, the adjustable lid will help.
