Devices require a PCI Express 3.0 connector to
increase transfer rate up to 5 GB/s in connection between old-format cards and XQD
2.0 cards.
XQD
card supports a transfer rate of 1,000MB/s.
Although next-generation memory cards are
not so popular, Compact Flash Association has introduced new technical criteria
for new XQD 2.0 cards. Accordingly, new card’s transfer rate will reach 8Gbit/s
(equivalent to 1,000MB/s). In previous generation of this card, the speed was
only 5Gbit/s.
To take advantage of new cards, the device needs
a PCI Express 3.0 connector. Sony has announced that they were continuing study
about technical criteria for this new type of card. As scheduled, CFA will launch
product supporting the new card.
XQD 2.0 mainly aims at users, who are
interested in high-speed recording relating to Full HD contents, 4K resolution and
IR cameras. Previous card formats, such as SD of CF, are unable to perform
these tasks.
Sony
gets very exciting about the new card format.
XQD has been only reported to appear in Nikon
D4, the hi-end DSLR camera from Japan. Meanwhile, Sony gets very exciting about
the new card format.
