Most people use their Xing profile to make a professional presentation about themselves and their qualifications. This way you can respond to your customers, get interesting offers and make new contacts. Xing offers premium members the opportunity to enhance their Profiles by attaching files. It can be work samples like graphics or brochures or even certificates or references. To add such data to your profile sign in and click on "My profile". You can add the attachments from the option "Document Upload" available in under "References and Awards". Here click on "Edit". Now with the help of the "Browse" button look for the data you want to select. Under file add a description of the attachment as specific as possible, because later only this description is visible and not the name of the file. You can decide who gets access to the uploaded files with the options "All Xing members" or "Only my contacts" and "Save" the settings after making these changes.

Xing can manage up to 3 files in your profile, which can be up to 2MB each. Formats accepted are PNG and JPG for images as well as PDF files. If your profile already has files in it, you can click on "Edit" and then on "Edit files" to update or change your files. To delete an attachment click on the small minus sign next to file that you wish to delete.

Facebook introduces new functions and activates them automatically. This is supposed to make the user's life easy. However we often do not want these functions as privacy and security are of greater concern. This becomes even more so in case of facial recognition and tagging.

However it is good to know that the relevant options can be disabled. Log in to Facebook and click on the arrow besides "Home" and click on the option "Privacy Settings". Now go to "How tags work". Next, click on "Edit Settings" then on "Tag suggestions" now click on "No one" and then "OK". This way the saved photo comparison data is deleted and no automatic suggestions can be made. It is still possible that you can be tagged by a person manually. To keep a tab on that, click on "Profile review" and click on activate. Henceforth you will be informed when you are tagged and you have to review it when your friends tag you somewhere. To review all tags in your posts you can click on "Tag review" and then click on "Enable" and finally click on "Back". This ensures that are no unwanted tags on your profile.

You may find yourself in a dilemma if you receive a friend request from your superior. You cannot ignore and at the same time you do not want the superior to be privy to your friends, acquaintances or even what you do in your free time. This could be in a way damaging to your image and may come in way of your reputation in office. To get out of this predicament you can create simple friend lists. For that, click on "Account Settings | Edit friends" and create a list for your professional contacts and one for your other acquaintances. Change the visibility options to "user-defined". Now you can make your contacts and wall posts visible selectively to the respective lists. Under "Account | privacy settings | user-defined settings" you can moreover determine in general, with which people or friend lists you would like to share your posts, photos or videos. Additionally, you can add people to list when you accept their friend request or you can click on their profile, here hover the mouse over Friends on top at the right and add them to a list that will appear.
