ROG G55VW is the newest gaming laptop model that has just been introduced by ASUS in Computex Expo 2012. The shell is not made completely by metal; the upper side is using rough plastic, not the cheap plastic like normal model.

All angles and other details are mostly beveled, especially the cooler slot in the back. This cooler slot stretches over the back side and is designed as the cooler slot of motorbike or spacecraft. The left side and right side has loads of connection port, including USB 3.0, HDMI, LAN, MIC, S/D DIF, VGA and a high speed Thunderbolt port. The memory card slot is in the front.

Open the screen, you will notice that the keyboard seems to be embossed compared to the palm rest, it’s not hollowed inward like normal laptop but raised out of the shell, which makes us feel more comfortable when pressing a key, especially in fighting games, soccer games or strategy games, which requires a lot more operations with the keyboard than with a mouse. The space between keys is fairly wide, although the keys are lack of feedback but in overall, you can feel pretty good when typing with the keyboard.

A metal plate is lined under the keyboard to prevent the keyboard from warping after a long period of time. Above the keyboard are the speaker, a power button is in the left corner, next to it is a special printed ROG button. This button has the ability to turn on/off the 3D gaming function of the laptop, using 3D vision from NVIDIA.

Below the keyboard is the touchpad which operates smoothly and quietly. The left and right mouse button is very easy to click. The palm rest is neither made from metal nor plastic, it’s covered by a soft material, very smooth and rough and less finger print stick.

The screen of G55VW is 15.6” and support full HD resolution. The screen provides a very good quality of images, very bright and colorful. However, the viewing angle is pretty low so the image quality will be discolored if viewing from different angles.
